Issue/Introduction

In the VMware Host Client, the Fan Redundancy health sensor may display the following status:

  • Current reading: Redundancy lost
  • Health Indicator: Green (Healthy)

This inconsistency can cause confusion, as the system appears healthy, but the fan redundancy warning is still displayed.

Environment

VMware vSphere Esxi 8.x

VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Resolution

There is no impact on actual hardware functionality. The issue is a UI anomaly in the Host Client and can be safely ignored if:

  • The system fan health sensor reports green (healthy)
  • The esxcli command output shows "Fully Redundant" in the Computed Reading.

Recommended Actions:

  • Use the vSphere Client (HTML5) to cross-check hardware health status.
  • Run the following command for accurate sensor data:

esxcli hardware ipmi sdr list
