Issue/Introduction

After upgrading Site Recovery Manager/VMware Live Site Recovery, the configuration was reset and any modifications would not be persistent.

Environment

Site Recovery Manager 8.X

VMware Live Site Recovery 9.X

Cause

/opt/vmware/dr/conf/drconfig.xml is overriden during upgrade and the configuration contained in this file is reset.

Resolution

This is a known issue resolved in VMware Live Site Recovery 9.0.2 or later. Upgrading to any version prior to 9.0.2 resets drconfig.xml.

If upgrading to an affected version, backup drconfig.xml before upgrading and replace it afterwards.

Additional Information

"Syslog Forwarding" is one of the configuration stored in drconfig.xml, which could be reset by this issue.

If "Syslog Forwarding" is configured, related information is stored in drconfig.xml and srm.conf.

# /opt/vmware/dr/conf/drconfig.xml

:::
  <outputToSyslog>true</outputToSyslog><syslogLevel>info</syslogLevel></log>
:::

# /etc/rsyslog.d/srm.conf

:::
action( type="omfwd" target="###.###.###.###" port="514" protocol="tcp" queue.FileName="fwdRule0" queue.SaveOnShutdown="on" queue.Type="LinkedList")
:::

After encountering this issue, the configuration in drconfig.xml would reset, whereas the information about the remote server would be kept in srm.conf. Consequently, although we could still see the remote syslog configuration in the VAMI UI, the logs were never forwarded to the remote server. In this case, reconfigure "Syslog Forwarding" would resolve the issue.
