Issue/Introduction

  • Guest metrics are missing for some Virtual Machines (VMs) in VMware Aria Operations

    • Example of a VM missing guest metrics

    • Example of a VM showing guest metrics

  • The following error was observed in /storage/vcops/log/adapters/VMwareAdapter/VMwareAdapter_ID.log file:

    • com.integrien.adapter.vmware.VMwareAdapter.enableDisabledPerfCounters - Failed to enable disabled performance counters, some performance counters (internal and gpu related) may not be collected. com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.NoPermission: Permission to perform this operation was denied. at jdk.internal.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance0(Native Method) ~[?:?] at jdk.internal.reflect.NativeConstructorAccessorImpl.newInstance(Unknown Source) ~[?:?]

Environment

  • Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

  • The root cause is the lack of the Performance > Modify intervals privilege assigned to the user/service account configured in Aria Operations for monitoring vCenter

Resolution

  • Add the Performance > Modify intervals privilege to the user/service account (in vCenter) used by Aria Operations to monitor vCenter.

Refer to: Privileges required for configuring a vCenter adapter instance
