VMware vSAN VMware vSAN 8.x

Issue/Introduction

There are no VMs impacted.

And one or more of the following Symptoms apply:

  • vSAN Health alert for vSAN object health lists inaccessible objects
  • Under "Virtual Objects" --> lists inaccessible objects as "Unknown object type"
  • You have identified a failed object in the vSAN Cluster during the recent health checks. The issue indicates that one or more components of the Object are either inaccessible or have failed to synchronize properly

Environment

vSAN 7.x
vSAN 8.x

Cause

These unknown objects are referents to objects that have already been deleted, but not fully removed from the vSAN database.

- e.g. old VM swap files, namespaces for VMs that are no longer on the vSAN datastore...

Resolution

Open a Ticket with VMware by Broadcom Support to have our Storage Team to investigate these inaccessible Objects.
