Issue/Introduction

If you manually install any additional RPM files to the VMware Data Services Manager appliance, the Control Plane upgrade from 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 to 9.0.x will fail.

If DSM is configured with a provider backup, the DSM UI login will fail. If not, the UI will be functional and users can log in to the DSM application.

However, in either case, the Provider Update task will be marked as "failed" in the UI, and the VMware Data Services Manager appliance will remain at version 2.2.1/2.2.2.

Environment

VMware Data Services Manager versions 2.2.1/2.2.2

Resolution

Examine the /var/log/vmware/capengine/cap-non-lvm-update/workflow.log file for the following error trace:

"Error: Packages - <manually-installed-packages> - are not available in the target repo for OS upgrade. Please provide the correct repo having the required packages."

If this error trace is found in the log file, contact the Broadcom Support Team.
