Issue/Introduction

  • Deploying a 2nd vSphere Replication appliance, warns that existing configuration will be overwritten

  • On accepting the warning to overwrite, it proceeds and fails with "The extension key is already registered. Use another extension key to proceed"

Environment

vSphere Replication Manager 8.x

vSphere Replication Manager 9.x

Cause

Only 1 vSphere Replication Manager ( VRMS) can be registered with a single vCenter.   An extension ID "com.vmware.vcHms" is created by default for this appliance

If an attempt to register a  2nd vSphere Replication Manager ( VRMS) to same vCenter, it warns that extension ID "com.vmware.vcHms" already exists.

Resolution

Only 1 vSphere Replication Manager ( VRMS) can be registered with a single vCenter.

However, upto 9 vSphere Replication Addon Server( VRS) can be deployed under same vCenter.
