Reprotect fails with error ""Operation Error: Mapping for resourcePool missing in resource mappings."

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms

• Reprotect from DC site to DR site fails with error at 'Configure protection to reverse direction' workflow step in Site Recovery:
  
  "Operation Error: Mapping for resourcePool  missing in resource mappings"

  
  
  
• In Resource Mapping, DR site is mapped with Resource Pools as the target Resource for recovery of VMs. i.e. ESXi Cluster at DC site is mapped to a Resource Pool at DR site.
  
  
• Reverse Resource Mapping i.e. DR to DC has Resource Pool (at DR site) mapped to ESXi Cluster (at DC site).

 

Environment

Vmware Live Site Recovery 9.x

Site Recovery Manager 8.x

Cause

• This is an expected behaviour where Resource Mapping from DR to DC has only Resource Pool to ESXi cluster mapping configured.

  Refer the statement in this document that confirms the necessity to add parent cluster in Resource Mapping:
  • Verify that if you are using resource pools in the array pair resource mappings section, there is also a mapping from the parent cluster.

Resolution

In Site Recovery UI, under Resource Mapping, add parent ESXi cluster (which the Resource Pools are part of) at the DR site and map to the ESXi cluster at DC site.
