Issue/Introduction
During the creation or modification of a virtual machine within VMware vSphere 8.x, the Oracle Linux 10 guest operating system option is missing from the selection menu. This behavior is specifically observed in virtual machines configured with virtual hardware versions 20 and 21.
Environment
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x
Cause
The specific identifier for the Oracle Linux 10 guest operating system was introduced in virtual machine hardware version 22. Consequently, earlier hardware versions do not contain the necessary definitions to display Oracle Linux 10 within the configuration wizard. Review the documentation regarding Virtual machine hardware versions to identify the specific VMware product releases that support hardware version 22.
Resolution
To resolve this issue on vSphere 8.0.x environments using hardware versions 20 or 21, select Oracle Linux 9 as the Guest OS. This selection provides the necessary compatibility for the installation and operation of the guest system until an upgrade to hardware version 22 is performed.
