Issue/Introduction

  • You are having trouble for a specific VM metric in a supermetric "[sic]" that is not working.
  • You have several very similar super metrics that aggregate data for a custom group of VMs.
  • When attempting to create a similar super metric summing the metric Physical Disk:Aggregate of all Instances|Total IOPS or Virtual Disk:Aggregate of all Instances|Total IOPS all of the values come out as zero.
  • You have tried many metric key iterations with the same results.
  • You need help confirming the correct metric internal name as it does not seem to be resolving properly.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

An incorrect metric key name is being used in the super metric configuration.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to Operations > Configurations > Others > Super Metrics
  2. Click Add and provide a meaningful Name for the super metric then click Next
  3. Select the Object Types to be associated with the super metric and click Next
  4. In the 3 - Formula page, verify that the Unformatted toggle is deactivated (gray color - slider to the left)
  5. Clicking in the editor space to activate the suggested text feature to guide you through creating the formula
    • Tips

    • Always select options from the suggested text drop down menu to ensure the use of correct syntax and metric key names
    • If the desired metric does not appear in the suggested text when using Object Type, try switching to a specific Object which has a value for the metric to be used.
