Issue/Introduction

  • VMs on VMFS datastore are hung and inaccessible.
  • Datastore is not mounted. 

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

Lun has been presented to new host and has been overwritten with a new VMFS volume.

vmkfstools -Ph -v10 /vmfs/volumes/####

VMFS-6.81 (Raw Major Version: 24) file system spanning 1 partitions.
File system label (if any): ####
Mode: public ATS-only
Capacity 10 TB, 2.2 TB available, file block size 1 MB, max supported file size 64 TB
Volume Creation Time: DD/MM/YY 

Here we see the Volume Creation Time and note that datastore has been recently created.

 

hostd.log shows:

WARNING: Vol3: 3612: FS $$$$-$$$$-$$$$-$$$$ uuid change detected, possibly got re-formatted by other host, new uuid ####-####-####-####

Resolution

VMs will need to be restored from backup.
