Issue/Introduction

  • Applying the snapshot limit does not propagate to organizations
  • You have changed the system snapshot limit with the CMT (Cell Management Tool) command: /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/bin/cell-management-tool manage-config -n vm.snapshotLimit.defaultValue -v <integer_value>
  • Unable to create a Snapshot "vApp/VM reached its snapshot limit of <# number>"

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1

Cause

  • When you apply a snapshot limit, it does not propagate to organizations.
  • Using the UI, if you try to apply a snapshot limit to all organization VDCs, when you edit and save the snapshot limit, the Inherit System Limit checkbox stays selected. The expected behaviour is for the checkbox to be deselected when you override the Number of snapshots per VM limit.

Resolution

To change the snapshot limit before the Cloud Director 10.6.1.1 release, you must use a temporary workaround:

  1. Go to the Tenant portal (Organization > Policies -> Limit section -> Number of snapshots)
  2. Ensure the "Inherit System Limit" option is not selected.

The permanent fix for this issue is included in Cloud Director 10.6.1.1.
