ESXi host lost management connectivity during network DVSwitch to Standard Switch migration

Issue/Introduction

 

  • The only pNIC that provides management connectivity between ESXi and vCenter Server, was accidentally removed.
  • Host management communication is lost, and host is not responding to vCenter Server.

Environment

VMware ESXi

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

This is a result of the loss of management connectivity between ESXi and vCenter Server.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, management connectivity must be restored between ESXi and vCenter Server.

This requires adding the uplink back to the Standard Switch.

To add the uplink back to the standard switch, run the following command on ESXi from root CLI:

  • esxcfg-vswitch -L vmnic# vSwitch#
