Issue/Introduction

  • When trying to upgrade windows workstation, you receive the below error

The processor isn't currently supported for Windows 11

  • The host's hardware version is on the compatible list in Microsoft compatibility guide

Environment

  • VMware vSphere ESXi
  • VMware Workstation

Cause

The issue occurs when the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) is not enabled on the VM

Resolution

To resolve the issue, follow the below steps to add and enable TPM for the VM:

  1. Power off the Virtual Machine. 
  2. In the vSphere Client (for ESXi) or the Virtual Machine Settings (for Workstation), edit the VM's settings
  3. Navigate to the "Virtual Hardware" tab
  4. Click Add New Device 
  5. Select Trusted Platform Module from the list
  6. Click Add (or OK)
