NSX Host upgrade failed with a ‘VI SDK invoke exception:java.rmi.RemoteException: VI SDK invoke exception:org.dom4j.DocumentException’ error

Issue/Introduction

NSX upgrade is on going (3.2.x to 4.2.x), but the NSX upgrade fails on ESXi host transport node fails with error:

Unexpected error while upgrading upgrade unit: Install of offline bundle failed on host ####-#####-#########-########## with error : VI SDK invoke exception:java.rmi.RemoteException: VI SDK invoke exception:org.dom4j.DocumentException

As per the following logs on NSX manager, host is still in maintenance mode:

/var/log/upgrade-coordinator/upgrade-coordinator.log

 

Environment

VMware NSX

Resolution

1. To remove the host out of maintenance mode

2. Retry the upgrade and it should complete the NSX upgrade on this host successfully
