Issue/Introduction

  • Error is displayed in browser when attempting to access the VCD Provider Admin Portal:
    • "This page isn't working right now - <VCD FQDN> didn't send any data"

  • The VCD appliance VM's are on ESXi hosts that are prepared for VMware NSX

Environment

VMware Cloud Director

VMware NSX 3.x

VMware NSX 4.x

Cause

The vDefend Distributed Firewall (DFW) may be blocking PostgreSQL Database traffic between the VCD appliances.

Resolution

  • Review the VMware Ports and Protocols documentation to ensure all ports/protocols needed for VCD are allowed - https://ports.broadcom.com/home/VMware-Cloud-Director
  • If you are getting the "This page isn't working right now - <VCD FQDN> didn't send any data" error when trying to access the VCD Provider Admin Portal, ensure that PostgreSQL Database traffic (TCP 5432) is allowed between your VCD appliances.
  • VCD appliances can be configured with both eth0 and eth1 interfaces. Ensure that your DFW rules apply to both interfaces where needed.
