Issue/Introduction

  • All the hosts in the a newly built vSAN cluster  might report vSAN network partitioned state.
  • vCenter UI > Cluster > Monitor > vSAN > Skyline health > vSAN Cluster Partition will shows that all hosts with different partition as in figure below.

  • 'esxcli vsan cluster get' command output from all hosts shows the Sub-Cluster Member count as 1 for all the hosts. This confirms that all the hosts is in Network partitioned state.

    [:~] localcli vsan cluster get
          Cluster Information:
          Enabled: true
           ..
          Sub-Cluster Member Count: 1
          ..
    [:~]

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.x
VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

This is caused if the hosts are not configured with the vSAN Network.

'esxcli vsan network list' command output from all the hosts will help to confirm if the vSAN tagging enabled for the vSAN vmkernel adaptors.

[:~] localcli vsan network list
[:~]

Resolution

Enable the vSAN tagging on all hosts in the vSAN cluster.
