Issue/Introduction

Continuous tasks appearing in the vCenter Server "The object or item referred to could not be found" initiated by com.vmware.cns user generate every minute

vpxd.log has entries similar to:

[YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS] error vpxd[1017606] [Originator@6876 sub=Default opID=wcp-vCLS-93] [VpxLRO] -- ERROR lro-743409082 -- 520bf1db-3363-54f1-224b-ae1b48fa0491(52b
ee4fa-9fc4-eef6-0042-169d363216e8) -- propertyCollector -- vmodl.query.PropertyCollector.retrieveContents: :vmodl.fault.ManagedObjectNotFound
--> Result:
--> (vmodl.fault.ManagedObjectNotFound) {
--> faultCause = (vmodl.MethodFault) null,
--> faultMessage = <unset>,
--> obj = 'vim.ClusterComputeResource:domain-cxxxx'
--> msg = ""
--> }

Environment

vCenter Server 7.x

vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

  • The cause of these tasks is because deleted Supervisor PVCs are being re-queued for health reconciliation. This can occur if a supervisor cluster is removed in an unsupported manner.
  • The volumeHealthReconciler still references these objects even after they are gone and the result is the repeated task in the vCenter UI tasks panel.
