VMFS datastore showing capacity as 0 B

Issue/Introduction

• VMFS datastore may report the Capacity as 0 B in the vCenter UI 

• Virtual machines running on the affected datastore may show as powered-on in the vCenter UI.
• Ping connectivity test to the Virtual machines will fail.

Environment

Vsphere ESXi 7.x
Vsphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

The environment experienced unexpected storage outage due to controller failure on the storage array which had caused metadata corruption on the LUN's.


vmkernel log will report the VMFS volume as corrupted.
