Issue/Introduction

When trying to vMotion the vCenter Server VM, a warning about host incompatibility is thrown, blocking the vMotion from proceed.

This warning is thrown, despite the vMotion targe having EVC disabled.

Environment

vCenter Server 8.0

ESXi 8.0

VM is running CPU featureset "Sapphire Rapids"

Cause

The source host is a standalone host, without per-VM EVC enabled. Since the source is not part of the EVC-enabled clsuter, the vMotion cannot take place.

Resolution

1) Create a new cluster.

2) Place the hosts in the old cluster into Maintenance Mode.

3) Click and drag the hosts, one-by-one, to move them into the new cluster.

4) Move the standalone host into the new cluster.

5) Enable EVC on the cluster, setting the mode to "Sapphire Rapids".
