Replication partner shows with a red light symbol for an outdated PSC/vCenter in vSphere UI

Issue/Introduction

Outdated PSC/vCenter which was already decommissioned is showing as a Replication Partner with a red light symbol under Topology Information in Administration -> System Configuration in vSphere UI.

Environment

vCenter Server 7.x
vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

This is caused due to stale entries of the decommissioned PSC/vCenter is still available in VMDIRD service on vCenter Server.

Resolution

Unregister the stale PSC/VC by following the steps in the KB Using the cmsso command to unregister vCenter with External PSC or vCenter with Embedded PSC from Single Sign-On.

Note: Make sure the stale PSC/VC fqdn is not pingable, otherwise unregister operations will fail with "Leave federation cleanup failed. Error[1] - Operations error"
