Issue/Introduction

VM stops responding to pings and loses its IP address after logging off from the guest operating system. 

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.0

Cause

This is an expected behavior if the "Screen" and "Sleep" Settings under "Power and Sleep" option of Windows Guest machine are not set to "Never".

Resolution

  1. Log in to Winodws Guest machine.
  2. Go to Power settings 
  3. Under Power and Sleep Settings set the Screen and Sleep time to Never.
