Issue/Introduction

Informational KB describing how to modify or add the DNS/NTP servers on the existing SSP-I(Installer) VM.

Note that the this KB covers steps for modifying DNS/NTP server details for the SSP-Installer VM.

For detailed procedure on modifying them on the SSP, refer to Append IP Pools and Common Settings which is only supported from SSP 5.1 version.

Environment

vDefend SSP >= 5.0

Cause

In some scenarios, while deploying the OVA of SSP-Installer, there are chances that you would end up adding an incorrect DNS server or an NTP server.

Resolution

Prerequisites:

  • Ensure you have the necessary permissions in vCenter to modify VM settings.

  • The VM must be powered off to make changes to vApp properties.

Steps to Modify DNS/NTP Settings:

  1. Log in to vCenter Server.

  2. Navigate to the VM you want to modify.

  3. Power off the VM.

    • Right-click on the VM > Power > Power Off.

  4. Go to the Configure tab of the VM.

  5. Under Settings, select vApp Options.

  6. Scroll to the Properties section.
  7. Locate the property keys for DNS and NTP:

    • For DNS: e.g., vsx_dns1_0, vsx_dns2_0

    • For NTP: e.g., vsx_ntp_0

  8. Select the key you want to update and click Set Value.

  9. Enter the new value (e.g., new DNS or NTP IP address) and click OK.

  10. Repeat the process for all required properties.

  11. Power on the VM after saving the changes.

    • Right-click on the VM > Power > Power On

  12. The new DNS/NTP settings will be picked up by the guest OS or application, as per how it consumes vApp properties.
