Issue/Introduction

CB Cloud Linux sensor versions 2.14.x and lower are prompted with a message in the console when attempting to upgrade to a version higher than 2.16.x:

Environment

  • Carbon Black Cloud Console: Current Version
  • Carbon Black Cloud Linux sensor: 2.14.x and Lower
  • Linux OS: All Supported versions

Cause

Sensor upgrades will fast-fail when an unsupported upgrade is requested for the Linux 2.16.x and higher sensor and a new failure reason pop-up will communicate the reason.

Resolution

A Linux sensor upgrade to 2.16.x and Higher is supported when the current sensor is running 2.15.x or Higher as documented in the Console Release Notes January - June 2024.

Additional Information

  • The error message does not apply to manual sensor upgrades or upgrades via CB Live Response. Only when using the CB Cloud Console upgrade jobs.
  • Linux sensor upgrades from the Carbon Black Console requires 2.15.x or higher.
  • 2.15 is EOL, and customers need to update sensor below 2.15.+ to 2.16.+ either manually or using external tools to perform mass upgrade to 2.16.+ instead of the console.
