Seeing extra vCenter Server appliance system users and groups

Issue/Introduction

When auditing a vCenter Server system, you may see the following:

   - a group named "applmgmtSvcUsers"

   - users with names like:

      - cms-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

      - observability-vapi-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

      - perfcharts-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

Environment

vCenter Server 6.7

Cause

This is expected behavior these accounts are created during the creation of the vCenter.

Resolution

These groups and users can be safely ignored. They are deployed in new vCenter Server environments, and are used to carry out internal functions of vCenter Server.
