Issue/Introduction

  • In the vmkernel log of an ESXi host with NSX installed, a message similar to the following is output, indicating that the memory allocated to nestdb has become full.
2023-02-05T02:14:03.812Z cpu0:2108876)WARNING: VisorFSRam: 203: Cannot extend visorfs file /var/lib/vmware/nsx/nestdb/db/2240543.ldb because its ramdisk (nestdb) is full.
  • This message is temporary and is not output continuously.
  • This message is output about once every few months.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

This is a current design of NSX NestDB.

NestDB will keep writing logs to ram-disk and will automatically restart and free up the space as a result of log rotation.

This does not have an impact on other components as the restart happens instantaneously and NestDB ram-disk is capped and does not affect other components.

Resolution

If the message is a one-off, you can ignore this message.
