Issue/Introduction

  • BFD tunnels are down between Edge and ESXi hosts, or between Hosts
  • On the ESX root shell, run esxtop command, then type n for network, checking the mapped network interfaces for workloads, it shows void:
  • On the ESX root shell esxtop, n for network, shows void for the mapped network interface
  • The Transport Node Profile(TNP) is configured with VDS Uplinks of Uplink1 or Uplink2 etc and not the LAG

Environment

VMware NSX Data Center 3.x
VMware NSX 4.x

Cause

By default the vDS may have Uplink 1 and Uplink 2 placeholders. However with LAG configured, these Uplink labels have no network adaptors mapped. If one of these Uplinks is selected in the TNP, the VMs and TEP interfaces on the hosts will have no physical adaptor assigned.

Resolution

The Transport Node Profile uplink should map to to the LAG configured in vSphere.
