Issue/Introduction

The following solution explains how to update and asset as Inactive, using the CA Asset Portfolio Management Data Importer.

Environment

CA Asset Portfolio Management 14.x, 17.x

Resolution

Create a text file with a ".csv" file extention, containing the list of assets to be inactivated and either place it in the "<ITAM installation>\Storage\Common Store\Import" folder on the ITAM Application server, or upload it to the ITAM server using the "Choose File" button.  For example:

In CA Asset Portfolio Management, navigate to the Administration tab and the Data Importer sub-tab.  From the menu on the left select "New Import"

Fill in the "Basic Information" and "Advanced Settings" sections of the form and click the "Save" button.  For example:

Create the mapping that connects the list of serial numbers to the Asset.Serial Number field, and the constant "1" to the Asset.Inactive field.  For example:

Note:  To set the asset back to Active, change the 1 to 0.

Click the "Save" button again to save the mapping settings.

Use the "Schedule" section to schedule a job to import the data

Additional Information

More information on how to import data in Asset Portfolio Management is here: How to Import Data

The documentation explains that the system administrator performs the data import. However, the administrator can grant Data Importer User Access or Data Importer Admin Access to any CA APM user role. User access allows users to create imports, modify or delete their own imports, and view any import that is created by another user. Admin access allows users to create imports and modify or delete any import that is created by any user.
