Issue/Introduction

  • Due to configuration change, it's required to connect the edge gateway to a different provider gateway deployed with IP blocks in VMware Cloud Director (VCD)
  • If change edge cluster/T0 gateway of the edge gateway directly from NSX-T manager, any following change to the edge gateway from VCD might revert the configuration back to original settings causing outage
  • There's no option in VCD either through UI or API/PowerCLI/DB manipulation to change provider gateway an edge gateway is connected to

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Resolution

Currently there's no way to change provider gateway an edge gateway is associated with if provider gateway is using IP blocks. Edge gateway inherits network allocation from provider gateway and these are then used in NAT rules etc.

VMware Cloud Director does not support changing edge cluster or T0 gateway of edge gateway directly from NSX-T manager. If there's a change required, it needs to be done from VMware Cloud Director instead of NSX-T manager.

Workaround is to create a new edge gateway associated with the provider gateway and replicate all the config from old edge to new in VMware Cloud Director and change the network connection from old to new.
