Issue/Introduction

Attempting to Register the Portable Software Instance in z/OSMF fails with error message:
The portable software instance descriptor file "/u/smpe/smpnts/.../IZUD00DF.json" or its directory does not exist on system "system-name"

Cause

The user did not first unpax the product zOSMF.pax.Z file.

When the product ZOSMF.pax.Z file is unpaxed, it creates a the subdirectory /portpkg and it is in that subdirectory where the portable software instance descriptor file  ZUD00DF.json file resides.

Resolution

1. Copy the product.install.pax.Z file to a USS directory on the mainframe.

2. Unpax the product.installation.pax.Z file

For example:

cd /yourUSSpaxdirectory/;
pax –rvf productid.VnnRn.ZOSMF.pax.Z

3. Then follow the instructions to Register the Portable Software Instance in z/OSMF, and be sure to specify the USS path name ending with subdirectory /portpkg.

For example:

/u/smpe/smpnts/.../portpkg
