Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:
1. Reconfigure VRMS fails with "Failed to register VMRS." in the GUI
2. Error in /var/log/vmware/dr/drconfig.log is "Read timed out"

Environment

vSphere Replication (All versions)

Cause

Slow DNS communication is preventing return of authentication to VRMS from vCenter server within 30 seconds, causing a timeout.

Resolution

Check to make sure the DNS servers configured are the correct IP addresses.

If DNS is correct, try to add the vCenter server IP address and hostname into the /etc/hosts file on the VRMS appliance.

1. SSH to the VRMS appliance
2. vi /etc/hosts
3. Add a line for the vCenter server in the format IPADDRESS FQDN SHORTNAME
      Example: xx.xx.xx.xx vcenter.domain.com vcenter
4. Save the file.
     :wq
5. Attempt to reconfigure the VRMS appliance.

If there are still issues after this, open a case with Broadcom Support.

Additional Information

The vCenter may have stale entries in the lookupservice if there are still problems. See Using the 'lsdoctor' Tool

If needed, Broadcom Support can help identify and remove these stale registrations.
