Issue/Introduction

  • BGP Community [65535:0] is the industry standard for BGP Graceful Shutdown. For more details, please refer to the RFC document - Graceful BGP Session Shutdown.

  • From NSX UI --> Networking --> T-0 GW --> Routing --> Community Lists --> Add Community List, when we set the community value "65535:0" for BGP GSHUT, UI does not accept the value.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

The BGP Community value "65535:0" is not supported by NSX.

Resolution

BGP Community Lists can include values within the range [1-65536].

For BGP Graceful Shutdown using a custom community (e.g., "65535:1"), it must be configured on all network devices. Additional setup, such as Route Maps and prefix mapping, may be required. To confirm compatibility with your devices, consult the respective switch vendors.
