Credentials disappeared after upgrade or applying patch

Issue/Introduction

• After installing the patch, all the credentials disappeared.
• You checked the credentials for the Admin account but they all have disappeared.
• You checked under other users and the credentials all are missing
• You had to recreate the credentials and reacknowledge all the vCenter and other adapter accounts.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.16.1+
VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

In version 8.16.1, a Global Setting called Credential ownership enforcement was added and enabled by default.

Resolution

To restore the previous behavior for all users with admin privileges to see all credentials regardless of ownership, navigate to Administration > Global Settings > System Settings and disable Credential ownership enforcement.
