If a vSphere cluster previously had vSAN OSA enabled on it and with either Compression-only or Deduplication&Compression feature enabled and then vSAN was disabled on the cluster and vSAN ESA enabled, then Skyline Health will trigger alert 'vSAN cluster configuration consistency' with 'Issue: Compression is disabled, but should be enabled'.
vSAN 8.X
The Compression-only and Deduplication&Compression feature setting persists on the vSphere cluster entity after disabling vSAN OSA.
vSAN ESA does not support the Compression-only nor Deduplication&Compression features (compression of data is done at the policy/upper layers, not on the storage layers).
Schedule down-time or migrate off the vsanDatastore any workloads that are running on the cluster, disable vSAN, enable vSAN OSA, disable Compression-only/Deduplication&Compression, disable vSAN, enable vSAN ESA.
Or alternatively, a new vSphere cluster can be created and the nodes moved into this.
Fix for this issue so that this issue cannot occur will be included in a future vSphere release.
