Issue/Introduction

Questions:

I'm researching moving CA-11 database which resides in Datacom/DB R14 to Datacom/AD R14. Also, I'm about to install CA-7 R12 which requires its database to be in Datacom/AD.  I will be administering the AD MUF's but I have no previous experience so I would like to ask some basic questions just to get a feel for what I'm doing.

1) Is Datacom/AD R15 out, or should I continue with R14?

2) In what process of the install can I change the name of the started task?

3) What utility will I use to display what's on a MUF?

4) What utility will I use to move CA-11 database from DB R14 to AD R14?

5) What are the commonly use utilities for management?

As stated, I'm new to Datacom and in the early stages of installing and moving MUF's so any other helpful hints would be appreciated.

Answers:

1) Is Datacom/AD R15 out, or should I continue with R14?

You need to continue with Relase 14.0, Release is not yet out as of today 03/24/2016.

2) In what process of the install can I change the name of the started task?

Process for you will be:

-a- Install a new CA Datacom/AD 14.0 Environment (CUSLIB, CAAXLOAD...provided by the Pax file and new data sets and definitions via INSTJCL library)

-b- Allocate and define new data base 601 in new AD 14.0 environment...Can be a DDBTGLM from DB14.0 and DDUPDATE into the new AD 14.0 environment).

-c- Backup and load DBID 601 from DB14.0 to the new AD 14.0 environment.

Note: you will be able to define your own STC in item a.

3) What utility will I use to display what's on a MUF?

DBUTLTY is the general Datacom Utility. The Sysin will vary depending on the actions.

CXX report is the most used, the Sysin for Datacom AD sites:

//SYSIN DD *

REPORT AREA=CXX,DBID=601

See CA Datacom/DB Utility Reference Guide 14.0 for more.

4) What utility will I use to move CA-11 database from DB R14 to AD R14?

It will most likely be a BACKUP Sequence Native in DB 14.0 followed by a LOAD in AD 14.0, see example below:

//BKP601 DD DSN=new data set...

//SYSIN DD *

ACCESS DBID=601,STATUS=OFF,USERS=FAIL

COMM DBID=601,OPTION=CLOSE          (to insure nobody isusing DBID 601)

BACKUP DBID=601,DDNAME=BKP601,SEQ=NATIVE

/*

More details can be given at a later time.

5) What are the commonly use utilities for management?

See Item 3. All the Datacom actions are described in DBUTLTY Reference Guide.
