Issue/Introduction

  • If tags are applied using any of:
    • Edit Tags deployment action
    • The Tag Management page (Infrastructure > Configure > Tags), or
    • Orchestrator workflow such as Update machine tags

Then they appear on the VM but do not count towards day 2 action policies which require this tag in their criteria.

Environment

  • VMware Aria Automation 8.x

Cause

  • The tagging data is not synced correctly to the deployment DB in this scenario

Resolution

The fix for this issue is scheduled for resolution in VCF 9.1.

Workaround

There are two workarounds to ensure the applied tags are counted correctly towards policies:

  1. Run the Update Tags resource action on the VM, make no changes and submit => policy applied for this VM
    • If you want to apply the tag in another way, you can add an extra step to the end of this process which runs Update Tags with no change.
  2. Delete and re-create the day 2 actions policy => policy applied for all VMs
