Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• The event logs show the following error message: "Failed to turn on the locator LED for the disk. Reason: Unable to change the host configuration."

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.x

Vmware vSAN 8.x

Cause

• The issue is caused by a faulty disk drive, preventing the disk locator LED from turning on.

Resolution

• The hardware vendor needs to be contacted regarding the faulty disk drive replacement .
• Replace the faulty disk drive, after which the disk locator LED will turn on properly.
