Issue/Introduction

Is there a way to find out the Agent versions connecting to a Policy Server?

How to know what Agents are connecting, like the Agent version, the Web Server type, Agent name, etc.?

Resolution

There are some methods available:

  1. Agent Discovery (1)

    The AdminUI feature that stores Agent information in the Policy Store.
    The AdminUI has a viewing screen.

  2. OneView Monitor (2)

    Separate monitoring tool that needs to be installed.
    OneView its own UI that can be customized.

  3. SNMP (3)

    Standard SNMP monitoring that provides product information.

  4. Log Parsing

    Agent information can be logged into the smtracedefault.log and then parsed out via a script or log analyzer.

    To capture the Agent information on the Policy Server, this component is needed in the Profiler tab of the SMConsole:

    Login_Logout/Receive_Request

    The log message for parsing the Agent data will be like this:
    [Receive request attribute 145, data size is 1628][SmMessage.cpp:568][3984][3384][05/07/2025][10:48:10][10:48:10.164][CSmMessage::ParseAgentMessage][][][][][][][][][<realm>][][s5/r6][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][<SMMON:ComponentRegistered xmlns:SMMON='http://example.com/monitor'><Host HostId='10.0.0.1'><SmComponent CompPath='<agentname>;<port>'></SmComponent></Host></SMMON:ComponentRegistered><SMMON:ComponentData xmlns:SMMON='http://example.com/monitor'><Host HostId='10.0.0.1'><SmComponent CompPath='<agent>;<port>' Version='12.52QMR01'><Name>siteminder_agent</Name><Info>Product=WebAgent,Platform=IIS100/Windows,Version=12.52QMR01,Update=HF11,Label=2820,FileVersion=12.52.0111.2820,UTC=1746640058,TZ=8,Crypto=128</Info><ResourceCacheHits>0</ResourceCacheHits><ResourceCacheMisses>1</ResourceCacheMisses><UserSessionCacheHits>0</UserSessionCacheHits><UserSessionCacheMisses>0</UserSessionCacheMisses><IsProtectedCount>1</IsProtectedCount><IsProtectedErrors>0</IsProtectedErrors><LoginCount>0</LoginCount><LoginErrors>0</LoginErrors><LoginFailures>0</LoginFailures><ValidationCount>0</ValidationCount><ValidationErrors>0</ValidationErrors><ValidationFailures>0</ValidationFailures><AuthorizeCount>0</AuthorizeCount><AuthorizeErrors>0</AuthorizeErrors><AuthorizeFailures>0</AuthorizeFailures><CrosssiteScriptHits>0</CrosssiteScriptHits><BadURLCharsHits>0</BadURLCharsHits><BadCookieHitsCount>0</BadCookieHitsCount><ExpiredCookieHitsCount>0</ExpiredCookieHitsCount><IsProtectedAvgTime>1</IsProtectedAvgTime><LoginAvgTime>0</LoginAvgTime><ValidationAvgTime>0</ValidationAvgTime><AuthorizeAvgTime>0</AuthorizeAvgTime><ResourceCacheCount>1</ResourceCacheCount><UserSessionCacheCount>0</UserSessionCacheCount><ResourceCacheMax>1000</ResourceCacheMax><UserSessionCacheMax>1000</UserSessionCacheMax></SmComponent></Host></SMMON:ComponentData>][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
