Error message "Datastore is in multiple datacenters" when trying to add datastore to different cluster.

Issue/Introduction

When trying to add a vmfs datastore to another cluster with Storage DRS enabled, it produces this error message

"Datastore is in multiple datacenters" as shown in screenshot below. 

Environment

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

vSphere was not designed to support shared datastores across multiple datacenters as Storage DRS only functions with datastores that are are in the same Cluster. 

 

 

 

 

Resolution

Having vmfs datastore presented across different datacenters with storage DRS enabled is not supported.
