Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• The following error message appears when attempting to add a capacity disk to the disk group in the vSAN cluster.

        A general system error occured .Failed to reserve naa500a075.########## with exception .Failed to read vSAN intent log.Failed to compete read device /vmfs/devices/disks/naa500a075.########## bytes read 0 of 512.

         

Environment

• VMware vSAN 7.x
• VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

• Hardware read errors were detected on the underlying disk, as indicated by the smartinfo.sh output. These errors will prevent the disk from being successfully added to the vSAN disk group.

         

        

Resolution

• The hardware vendor should be contacted to run diagnostics on the disk reporting the error, and the faulty disk should be replaced.
