Issue/Introduction

When attempting to perform a day-2 action of "Add Disk" in Aria Automation 8.18.1 to a virtual machine that has 15 disks on SCSI Controller 0, it fails with the following response:

com.vmware.tango.blueprint.provider.ResourceTileService - update request Failed: com.vmware.photon.controller.model.adapters.vsphere.GenericVimFault: Error from vCenter:  Device label 'scsi0:16' is invalid.

While the action fails when done from from VRA, it works when done manually in vCenter.

Environment

Aria Automation 8.18.1

Cause

In previous version of Aria Automation, there was a limitation of 14 disks per PVSCSI controller.

vSphere has supported 64 disks per PVSCSI controller since the release of HW version 17 in vSphere 7.

The new release of Aria Automation 8.18.1 now supports 64 disks per PVSCSI controller, assuming virtual machines have HW version >= 17 installed.

Some features in a particular release of a VMware product might depend on installing or upgrading to the version of VMware Tools included in that release.

Resolution

Upgrade the HW version (1) of the virtual machine to a version >= 17.

Alternatively, create a custom workflow which will take into account the HW version installed in the virtual machine when performing the day-2 action of "Add Disk".
