Issue/Introduction

  • There is an Alert in the Activated state in a Policy that uses a Symptom
  • The Symptom state shows as Activated (Force), which indicates the status was inherited from the Activated Alert
  • Making a change to the Threshold of the original Symptom definition outside of the Policy does not update the Threshold value for the Symptom within the Policy

Environment

Aria Operations 8.x

Resolution

To resolve this issue and get the Symptom Threshold within the Policy to sync up with the Symptom definition:

  1. Edit the Policy with the Alert that uses the Symptom. In the Aria Operations UI, go to Configuration > Policy Definition, select the Policy and click Edit Policy.
  2. Click on the Alerts and Symptoms box. Then click on Symptom Definitions. In the search box, enter the name of the Symptom you need to update.
  3. Click the Symptom in the search results and change the state to Activated. Click Save to save the Policy.
  4. Repeat steps 1-2.
  5. Click the Symptom in the search results and change the state to Inherited. Click Save to save the Policy.

Now any changes made to the Threshold in the original Symptom definition will be reflected in the Threshold value for the Symptom in the Policy.
