Issue/Introduction

Integrating VMware Aria Automation with VMware Aria Operations fails with authentication errors when using an Active Directory-backed service account. The following error is displayed:

Failed to validate credentials. Error: Failed to connect to VMware Aria Operations: The provided username/password or token is not valid. Please try again.

Environment

VMware Aria Automation 8.x

VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

The username format documented for integration is intended for VMware Identity Manager-backed authentication sources and does not apply to Active Directory-backed authentication sources.

Incorrect (vIDM) format attempted:

serviceAccountName@domain@SourceTypeDisplayName

Resolution

When integrating VMware Aria Automation with VMware Aria Operations using an Active Directory-backed authentication source, use only the User Principal Name (UPN) format, without specifying the authentication source:

Correct format:

serviceAccountName@Domain
The domain portion must match the string as it is shown under the Source Display Name configured in VMware Aria Operations (e.g., corp.local). This is not case sensitive.
