Issue/Introduction

  • When attempting to create a new protection replication for a client's vApp, the deployment fails midway with the error:

"Could not compose a RT vApp for vApp replication with ID 'C4VAPP-ID.'"

  • Additionally, you may encounter the following error:

"Unable to connect to vCenter '######-####-####-####-##########.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7.3

Cause

The issue is caused by expired certificates for the tunnels between the two sites. This can lead to a failure in establishing secure communication, causing the vApp replication process to fail.

Resolution

  • Replace the service certificate for both sites.
  • Reconfigure the tunnels to the manager.
    • In a Web browser, go to https://Appliance-IP-Address/ui/admin.
    • Login using root.
    • In the left pane under Configuration, click Settings.
    • Under Service Endpoints next to Tunnel Service address, click Edit.
    • In the Tunnel Service Settings window, click Apply.
    • Verify the thumbprint and accept the new Tunnel Service SSL certificate.
  • Pair the two sites.
