Error: "System has paused replication: Disk added to VM" When replicating Proxy VM using vSphere Replication

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• VM stops replicating with a message : "System has paused replication: Disk added to VM"

• VM configured for protection by vSphere Replication is a backup proxy VM.

Environment

vSphere Replication 8.x
vSphere Replication 9.x

 

Cause

This issue occurs due to the Hot add method with Backup proxy VM.
VM disks are getting added to the Backup proxy VM as part of the backup process. HBR detects this addition and pause the replication until the newly added disk is configured for replication.

Resolution

This is an expected behavior,

Work-around:
Change the Backup proxy VM configuration to not use the hot-add method.
