Issue/Introduction

  • The "VM's Deleted" widget in the VMware Aria Operations for Logs "Virtual Machine - Overview" dashboard does not immediately show information about deleted virtual machines after they are removed from the vCenter server when the time filter is set to "Latest 5 min" or "Hour " However, the dashboard works as expected and displays details of deleted VMs when "Custom time range" filter is selected.
  •  Dashboard Location: Aria Operations for Logs UI > Dashboards > VMware-vSphere > Virtual Machine Overview > VMs deleted

Environment

Aria Operations for logs 8.x

Cause

This issue typically occurs due to a time discrepancy between the server, local desktop/laptop, and the browser. Aria Operations for Logs relies on synchronized time for accurate data representation. When the time settings across the server (Aria Operations for Logs), the user's desktop or laptop, and the browser are out of sync, it can result in showing incorrect dashboard results

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure that the time settings across all relevant components are synchronized:

  1. Verify NTP Server Reachability: Check if the Network Time Protocol (NTP) server configured for the Aria Operations for Logs appliance is reachable and functioning correctly. Ensure the Aria Operations for Logs server is synchronizing its time with a reliable NTP source.
  2. Synchronize Local Desktop/Laptop Time: Verify that the time and time zone settings on the local desktop or laptop used to access the Aria Operations for Logs UI are accurate and synchronized with a reliable time source.
  3. Synchronize Browser Time: Ensure that the browser's time settings are aligned with the local desktop/laptop's time. In most cases, browsers default to using the operating system's time settings.
  4. Verify Aria Operations for Logs Server Time: Directly check the time and time zone configuration on the Aria Operations for Logs server to confirm it is accurate and consistent with the NTP server.
