Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • Maintenance mode precheck with ensure accessibility fails with error "1 more standalone host is required. Since objects will become inaccessible or non-compliant with their storage policy."

  • The host can't enter maintenance mode with "Ensure Accessibility" due to insufficient cluster capacity or fault domain availability.

Environment

  • VMware vSAN 7.x
  • VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

  • The vSAN cluster does not have enough available capacity or fault domains to keep all objects accessible or compliant with their storage policy if the host is placed into maintenance mode.

Resolution

  • Recommend adding capacity to the cluster to meet storage policy requirements.
  • Recommend performing Storage vMotion of large VMs to another datastore to free up space.
