Oracle Instant Client as a replacement for Oracle Database Client

Issue/Introduction

The software prerequisites for Information Centric Analytics (ICA) include the Oracle Database Client for integration with Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP). Is ICA compatible with the Oracle Instant Client and has Broadcom tested utilizing the Instant Client instead of the Oracle Database Client?

Resolution

The Oracle Instant Client is not supported for use with ICA.

Broadcom has determined the Oracle Instant Client is insufficient on its own to enable communications with the Oracle database through a linked server. Installing Oracle's OLE DB driver in addition to the Instant Client is also insufficient. ICA requires the presence of Oracle's Transaction Services for Microsoft in order for SQL Server to communicate with Oracle's client. Neither the Oracle OLE DB driver nor Oracle Transaction Services for Microsoft are included with the Instant Client, and the Oracle Transaction Services for Microsoft component is only available through the Oracle Database Client package.
