SRM appliance displays "A server error occurred" when launched from the vCenter

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

• Accessing the Site Recovery UI gives the error: "A server error occurred"

• From the SRM VAMI interface, the srm-server service appears as stopped.

 

Environment

• VMware Site Recovery Manager 8.x
• VMware Site Recovery Manager 9.x

Cause

• A thumbprint mismatch will be identified on the vCenter Server.
• This issue occurs when the SSL certificate thumbprint registered in the Lookup Service differs from the thumbprint of the SSL certificate currently presented by the vCenter Server. This mismatch prevents SRM-server service to start. 

Cause validation:

• In the opt/vmware/support/logs/dr/drconfig.log file, similar entries are seen:

Resolution

• Reconfigure the SRM appliance and reconnect the pair.
• The reconfigure operation will make sure that the new thumbprint information is pushed for successful communication with the vCenter.
