Issue/Introduction

Troubleshooting Override Thresholds Not Applying in VMware Aria Operations

Environment

Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

In VMware Aria Operations, policies are hierarchical and can inherit settings from base policies. If a higher-priority policy inherits symptom definitions from a lower-priority policy without explicitly overriding them, the system may continue to use the thresholds from the lower-priority policy.

Resolution

VMware Aria Operations utilizes policies to govern how alerts and symptoms behave across different objects and environments.
You can override default alert and symptom definitions within these policies to align with your organization's requirements.
To override definitions in a policy:
  1. Navigate to Policies:

    • Go to Operations > Configurations > Policy Definition.

    • Select an existing policy or click Add to create a new one.

  2. Edit Alerts and Symptoms:

    • Within the policy editor, click on the Alerts and Symptoms tab.

    • Here, you can activate, deactivate, or modify alert and symptom definitions specific to this policy.
