Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

The administrator encountered the following error during the SRM DR Bubble Test "A general runtime error occurred"  at change recovery site storage to writable step.

/var/log/vmware/vmware-dr.log at destination SRM server shows entries similar to:

--> " <key>com.vmware.vim.vpxd.encryption.kmsNotCompatibleWithHost</key>",

--> " <message>Key provider TKP01 is not compatible with the host 'ESXI'. Reason: TPM2 device is required.</message>",

--> " </e>",

--> " </faultMessage>",

--> " <msg>A general runtime error occurred. </msg>",

Environment

vSphere Live recovery 9.x

Cause

The target ESXi host/s either does not support TPM or its not enabled in BIOS.

Resolution

Enable TPM 2.0 in the BIOS of the target site ESXi host servers to ensure compatibility and support. Please refer to the document to enable TPM Enable TPM on ESXi.
